Increase in budgetary allocation to women empowerment programmes in Bauchi

Speaker, Bsichi State house of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, has reiterated the state assembly’s commitment to support women by ensuring increase in budgetary allocation and timely releases of funds as a strategic approach to alleviate to the plights of Eomen.
The Speaker revealed this when Coalition of Women Civil Society Organisations CSO’s in Bauchi State paid him an advocacy visit at the State house of Assembly Complex.
Suleiman said that women formed a major component of the population that had contributed immensely to the development of the state, 
 He added that already, the administration of Bala Mohammed had inaugurated empowerment programmes in the 20 Local Government Areas of the state, were majority of the beneficiaries are women.
He said that the Advocacy visit by the coalition of Civil Society Organisations was timely, considering the fact that the Assembly was preparing the 2022 budget.
 “At the State House of Assembly, we have the constitutional right to make increases in the budget, 
“But you have to ensure that women empowerment is properly captured in the submission that will be made by the ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Economic Empowerment.
“This is important, so that we can make the increases in allocation and ensure timely releases of funds,” he said
Earlier Speaking, leader of the team Hafsat Mahmood, Executive Director RHISA, said they were in the Assembly to seek the lawmakers’ support to increase budgetary allocations and releases for women economic empowerment programmes.
 According to her, “we visited relevant ministries to solicit for their support on the increased budget and release of funds to women empowerment programmes in the state.”
 “The Coalition visited the ministry of Agriculture, Finance, Local Government, Budget and Economic Planning where we solicited for their support for women empowerment programmes”
This, she said is by ensuring that there is an increase in budgetary allocations and releases of funds for women economic Empowerment Programmes.
Abdulrazak Zaki, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Alhaji Yakubu Abdullahi the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture, expressed their support on the increase in budget and release of funds for women empowerment programmes in the state.
The Coalition has advocated to relevant Ministries and stakeholders for  increase in budgetary allocation to women empowerment programmes in the state.

Our correspondent reports that the coalition includes the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association (FOMWAN), Reproductive, Health Initiative and Support Association (RHISA) Fahimta Women Association, Women Farmers Association among others.
