Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, lamented that all the N7bn the state gets as monthly allocation goes to the payment of workers’ salaries at the expense of capital projects.
Mohammed disclosed this when the Christian community in the state paid him Christmas homage at the Government House.
He said he was not elected to pay salaries alone but to provide other dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
He complained that some workers earn double monthly remunerations thereby, inflating the state’s wage bill.
The governor said, “As Christians and Muslims, we should fear God. Some people are collecting double salaries; people are collecting allowances that are not their own.
“You can see that we get N7bn from Federal Government, at the end of the day, we end up using everything to pay salaries. Yet, some people are saying they have not received salary.
“I was not elected to pay salary. I was elected to execute projects and programmes.
“Still, as a civil servant, I know the obligation to pay salary and that’s why I have been paying. We are making sure we are reserving and raising our Internally Generated Revenue and that is why we are doing all these projects.”
